Objective

A competition to raise awareness for otters by encouraging local events and activities during World Otter Day (the last Wednesday of May – 24th of May 2024) all over the African continent. Events will be organised and documented, and the most popular event will be awarded in July 2024.

Development

Each participant will propose, organise and carry out an event for World Otter Day 2024. Events can be of any nature, from an educational day in a school to a party in a local community, from a themed dinner in a University to a walk along a river. Events will be documented with photos, videos and a report that will be submitted to the AON (info below in the “How to Participate” section). All participations will be published on the AON website, Facebook and Instagram pages.

Awards

The events with the most “votes” (ie “likes” and “shares”) on Facebook and Instagram pages will be analysed by the AON team and the winners will be awarded with a monetary prize obtained from the sales of the “Otters: folktales, myths and legends” book, sold during the last year. The prize will be sent to the winner who will use it to further otter awareness and conservation.

All participants will be featured indefinitely on the AON website, Facebook and Instagram pages and be sent participation certificates by email.

How to Participate

Step 1: please send an email to africanotternetwork (at) gmail.com before the 20th of May 2024

Step 2: you will receive a google form that you will have to fill out in order to reserve your participation. The form will ask for generic data (name, email, location etc) and a description of the World Otter Day (#WOD24) event you are organising.

Step 3: You will document your event on the 29th of May 2024 with photos, videos and a short written summary and send it before the 31st of May to the AON email

Step 4: The AON will publish your event on the website, Facebook and Instagram pages

Step 5: The public will vote (by “liking” or “sharing” the posts on Facebook and Instagram) and the projects with the most votes on the 29th of June 2024 will be analysed by the AON team

Step 6: On the 30th of June 2024, winners will be chosen and announced on the AON website, Facebook and Instagram pages. They will be contacted via email/whatsapp

Step 7: Winners will be sent the monetary prize

Step 8: We start organising #WOD 2025!!
